Google unveils new version of search engine using AI

Google has said it will be rolling out a search engine based on artificial intelligence for its core search product, as it looks to compete with Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing search.

The announcement was made at the annual Google I/O conference.

Google offered a new version of its namesake engine, Search Generative Experience. This version will craft responses to open-ended queries while retaining its recognizable list of links to the Web, according to reports.

This comes at a time when the world is moving towards AI-based search engines and rival Microsoft’s Bing is gaining popularity with its AI-powered search solution.

Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s CEO, said Google was integrating generative AI into search along with applications like Gmail, which can create draft messages, and Google Photos, which can make changes to images like centring figures and colouring in empty space.

“We are reimagining all of our core products, including search,” he said.
