Who will replace Aparna Purohit at Amazon Prime Video?
Recently, exchange4media broke the news that Aparna Purohit, Amazon Prime Video's Head of India and SEA Originals has stepped down. Purohit, who joined the company in 2016 as Head of Creative Development and in 2019 was promoted to Head of India Originals. During her time with the company, she spearheaded many acclaimed shows with cutting-edge and experimental content. Sources say that she will be joining Aamir Khan Productions in a leadership role.

Given his experience with original content and rich experience across TV and digital ecosystems, industry and sources speculate that he may be the right contender to take over the reins from Purohit. He began his career at Unilever where he was Global Marketing Manager between 2005-2008. From Unilever, he moved to Turner (now WarnerMedia) as Senior Director of Marketing.
With Purohit stepping down, the industry is curious to know who her successor will be. While there are chances that the next Head of India and SEA Originals may be hired from outside the company, the industry chatter also suggests that Purohit's successor might be an insider at Amazon Prime Video.
Nikhil Madhok's name has come up as the next to take charge of India and SEA Originals. Sources have told e4m that Madhok, the Head of Hindi original content at Amazon Prime Video, is likely to be Purohit's successor.
Madhok who joined Prime Video in September 2022 as the Head of Hindi Originals for Prime Video and Amazon Studios led Hotstar's original content at Disney+Hotstar
He was in charge of the conception and launch of Hotstar Specials, a content hub of Disney+ Hotstar that comprises original programming created exclusively for the platform.
Madhok was at the helm, overseeing the entire slate of Specials from content strategy to production. Under his leadership, Disney+ Hotstar has created original shows like Special Ops, Aarya, Criminal Justice, Human, Grahan, and Ghar Waapsi.
Prior to Disney+Hotstar, Madhok worked with Disney Star for over four years. He joined Star India in 2011 as VP of network marketing and resigned in 2016 as business head. Between his first and second stints at Star, he joined Discovery for a brief period as the Head of Products Asia Pacific where he was responsible for Discovery's suite of Linear TV and Digital products across APAC.
