IPL a 'decacorn' after crossing $10 billion valuation in 2022: Report

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has attained the 'decacorn' status after its valuation crossed $10.9 billion in 2022, says a news daily on the basis of a report by D and P Advisory titled 'Beyond 22 Yards.' A business is called decacorn once it crosses $10 billion in value.

The report says that the value of the IPL ecosystem has grown 75% in dollar terms since 2020 when it was valued at $6.2 billion and in rupee terms, it has grown 90%.

To compile the report, the agency used the discounted cash flow method where the value of an asset is determined using its expected future cash flows. The report also stated that the growth of IPL is driven by its $6.2 billion media rights deal by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the auction of two new teams -- Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Supergiants -- for a combined value of $1.6 billion.
