Enrique Lores has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of PayPal

Enrique Lores has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of PayPal, effective March 1, 2026. He succeeds Alex Chriss, who is stepping down after two and a half years in the role.

Lores has been associated with PayPal for nearly five years as a Board member and has served as Board Chair since July 2024. To ensure a smooth leadership transition, Jamie Miller, Chief Financial and Operating Officer, will serve as Interim CEO until Lores assumes charge. David W. Dorman has been named Independent Board Chair with immediate effect.

The appointment follows an extensive review by the Board of Directors of PayPal’s competitive positioning and performance against the broader industry backdrop. While the company has made progress across several areas over the past two years, the Board noted that the pace of change and execution did not meet expectations. It expressed confidence that Lores’ appointment will provide the leadership required for PayPal’s next phase of growth.

“Enrique is widely recognized as a visionary leader with a strong focus on customer-centric innovation and disciplined execution,” said Dorman. “His proven ability to lead complex global transformations positions PayPal well to maintain and strengthen its leadership in the rapidly evolving payments industry.”

Lores joins PayPal after more than six years as President and CEO of HP Inc., where he led the company through a major strategic transformation. During his tenure, HP expanded beyond its traditional PC and printing businesses into services, subscriptions, and future-of-work solutions, including AI-enabled offerings. He also played a key role in the HP–HPE separation, strengthening operational discipline, simplifying the cost structure, and positioning the company for long-term innovation.

Commenting on his appointment, Lores said, “We will further strengthen a culture of innovation while balancing long-term transformation with near-term execution. The payments industry is evolving faster than ever, driven by new technologies, regulatory shifts, intensifying competition, and the rapid acceleration of AI. PayPal sits at the center of this change, and I look forward to leading the team to shape the future of digital payments and commerce.”

The Board reiterated its belief that PayPal’s long-term success is anchored in its global scale, data capabilities, and strong consumer, merchant, and partner relationships, supported by rigorous execution, robust risk management, and a powerful two-sided platform.

The Board also thanked Alex Chriss for his contributions, including efforts to monetize Venmo, expand the buy-now-pay-later business, and advance the modernization of the PayPal platform.

“I am proud to have led such a talented team and a great company,” said Chriss. “This is the right time for a transition to a seasoned leader who can guide PayPal through its next phase. I have enjoyed working closely with Enrique and am confident he is the right person for this role.”
