On July 7, 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, making him the seventh person to hold the position. A prominent figure in global media and sports, Sanjog brings with him over two decades of diverse experience and a reputation for transforming how sports are viewed and experienced across platforms.
Prior to this appointment, Sanjog was appointed the CEO, Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, the media powerhouse born from the merger between Viacom18 and Disney Star. At JioStar, he is leading the joint venture's sports initiatives, crafting strategies to expand their sports presence across television and digital platforms.
Gupta’s journey in the media and entertainment industry began in 2009 when he joined Star India as a Consultant/Producer for Star Movies and the BBC World Service Trust. Early in his career, he worked on landmark productions like Opening Night and the Academy Awards 2010 Specials for Star Movies India, as well as a 156-episode radio drama for the BBC World Service Trust, showcasing a remarkable versatility in both visual and audio storytelling.
In 2010, he took on a leadership role as AVP, Digital Content and Viewer Engagement Strategy for Star World and Star Movies. His sharp content acumen led him to become Vice President and Head of Content Strategy & Development for Life OK in 2012, where he played a key role in developing and launching 13 successful television shows.
Between 2015 and 2017, Gupta was Senior Vice President at Star Sports, overseeing cricket operations and playing a pivotal role in managing the broadcaster’s cricket content and rights, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and major international events. His influence was instrumental in scaling the network’s cricket portfolio.
From 2017 to 2020, he moved into the role of Executive Vice President, leading Sports Content (Production & Programming) across TV and digital. In 2020, Sanjog was appointed Head of Sports for the Star TV Network, further strengthening his legacy in Indian sports broadcasting through strategic, innovative, and audience-centric approaches.
In 2024, following the JioStar merger, he was elevated as CEO of JioStar Sports. Known for blending business acumen with creative storytelling, Sanjog has been integral to the rise of major cricketing properties such as the ICC events and the IPL, the establishment of leagues like PKL and ISL, and the popularization of global sports like the Premier League and Wimbledon in India.
Speaking on his ICC appointment, Sanjog expressed his excitement at leading cricket into its next era, with ambitions to expand its global footprint, deepen engagement, and capitalize on upcoming milestones like the sport’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Chosen from over 2,500 applicants spanning 25 countries, Sanjog’s selection followed a rigorous global search and unanimous recommendation by the ICC Nominations Committee. ICC Chairman Jay Shah hailed him as a visionary with deep expertise in sports strategy, commercialisation, and fan engagement, qualities seen as essential to growing the game and redefining cricket's global relevance.
