Public broadcaster, Doordarshan Network operates 28 regional and state channels that broadcast programmes in their respective regional languages and dialects. Akashvani airs content in 23 major languages and 182 dialects through its 112 regional channels across the country. New regional-language programmes are introduced on an ongoing basis in line with audience needs and public service objectives.
The modernisation and upgradation of Prasar Bharati are being undertaken under the Central Sector Scheme for Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) for 2021–26, with a total outlay of ?2,539.61 crore. The scheme focuses on upgrading production equipment, studio facilities, transmitters, and digital broadcasting infrastructure across Doordarshan and Akashvani.
In view of technological advancements in the broadcasting sector, evolving manpower requirements are being addressed through contractual hiring in accordance with Prasar Bharati’s Contractual Engagement Policy, based on functional needs projected by individual kendras.
