Cetaphil trends, brand war erupts on X

Skincare brand Cetaphil has been trending on X for mysterious reasons, piquing the curiosity of netizens. Known for its range of mild cleansers and emollients, the brand found itself being either praised or compared to its much cheaper and more trusted Indian counterparts.

Even sitaphal (custard apple) found its 15 minutes of fame on X for being phonetically similar to Cetaphil. However, it's unclear what spiked the sudden curiosity around Cetaphil on X.

When the brand first started trending, netizens were baffled by the number of posts mentioning Cetaphil on their timelines. What was presumably a PR exercise for the brand soon turned into a PR nightmare when trolls joined in on the fun. They took the opportunity to take potshots at the brand and its premium pricing, comparing it to homegrown brands like Boroline, Minimalist and Medimix, which are much cheaper.

Some also shared their preferred skincare products while comparing them to Cetaphil. Netizens also took the opportunity to drag the brand and compare it to washing soaps like Rin.

Cetaphil is a range of skincare products from the house of Galderma, a global pharmaceutical company that specializes in skin care products and dermatological treatments. It has long been recommended by dermatologists for a wide gamut of skin ailments, owing to its mild formulation. Cetaphil is also considered a premium brand since it's more expensive than everyday drugstore cleansers and creams.

Cetaphil roped in Kareena Kapoor as its first brand ambassador in 2022. The actor has since starred as a "badass mom" in the ad for Cetaphil's babycare range.
