This year, we are starting strong with some amazing campaigns. In the fortnight between January 1 and 15, some brands wowed us with their creative spots. They were quirky, clever and compassionate. Here's our list of best ads for the fortnight.

Cadbury 5 Star

Fire-Boltt

Seeing MS Dhoni and MC Stan sharing a screen wasn't on our Bingo card this year. Fire-Boltt made it happen by bringing them together for an ad for its Wristphone. The ad shows Dhoni trying to avoid an awkward encounter with MC Stan because he grapples with recalling Stan's name and songs. Stan, on the other hand, is hell bent on striking a conversation with Dhoni. The cricketer saves the day by using his Fire-Boltt Wristphone to find information on who Stan is and thereby averting an awkward moment. We were pleasantly surprised by Dhoni and Stan's comic timings and how well they played off each other. The film has been conceptualized and shot by Moonshot.

Lay’s

Mom-son duo Neetu and Ranbir Kapoor star in Lay's new commercial trying to outwit each other to bag the ultimate prize, a packet of Lay's chips. The song "Chanda hain tu" centred on a mother's love for her son plays in the background contrasting with the visuals on screen. The ad seems to convey that even the strongest bonds are put to test when it comes to love for Lay's. The campaign is a collaborative effort between Leo Burnett, PepsiCo India, and Director Vivek Kakkad.

OPPO India

OPPO India delighted an entire nation by bringing together the lead stars of the Bollywood fan favourite Wake Up Sid. The ad sees Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen reprise their roles as Sid and Ayesha from the 14-year-old film. Famous Innovation conceptualised the campaign to introduce the OPPO Reno11 Series. Other characters like Namit Das and Shikha Talsania also revisited their roles as Rishi and Laxmi.

Parle G

The benevolence in children is a wholesome thing because it often comes from a pure place. Parle G, which has always focussed on the G = Genius proposition, did a slight detour from the thought in its new campaign, celebrating the compassion of kids. The new set of five films by Thought Blurb Communications equates Genius with Goodness in the campaign for the biscuit brand. "Genius wohi, jo auron ke khushi mein paye apni khushi," the films emphasise.

Tata AIG

General insurance company Tata AIG roped in Rohit Shetty and Ranbir Kapoor for its latest campaign. In a hilariously self-aware ad, Ranbir highlights the many perils of starring in a Rohit Shetty action film with the thought "Expect the Expected" at the heart of the campaign. In the end, we see Ranbir in the hospital with his limbs in casts thanking Tata AIG for taking care of the rest. Wondrlab has conceptualised this ad.

Directed by Prasoon Pandey (Corcoise Films) and conceived by Ogilvy India, Cadbury 5 Star highlighted the virtues of doing nothing. The new ad titled "Elevator" shows how a young man engrossed in enjoying his Cadbury 5 Star ignores his ringing phone. He stays blissfully oblivious even upon being told. The annoying ringtone ultimately revives a corpse in the elevator, saving him from being cremated alive. The ad reiterates that doing nothing at all sometimes can lead to delightful outcomes.Fire-Boltt Seeing MS Dhoni and MC Stan sharing a screen wasn't on our Bingo card this year. Fire-Boltt  made it happen by bringing them together for an ad for its Wristphone.
