Shekhar Banerjee set to succeed Ajay Gupte at WPP Media

WPP Media has announced the promotion of Shekhar Banerjee to President, Client Solutions, South Asia. He takes over the role following the departure of Ajay Gupte, who recently concluded his tenure as President – Client Solutions after a successful period with the organisation.
Banerjee joined WPP Media in 2018 as Managing Partner – West at Wavemaker India, where he played a key role in strengthening client relationships, building agile teams, and driving business growth across the western region. In 2023, he was elevated to Chief Client Officer – West, North, and East at Wavemaker India. His tenure at Wavemaker was marked by a strong focus on client-centric strategies, leadership development, and innovative media solutions.
The leadership change also marks Ajay Gupte’s exit from WPP Media after over a decade of leadership across India and South East Asia. Since joining in 2011, Gupte contributed significantly to the agency’s growth and was instrumental in positioning Wavemaker as one of India’s most sought-after media agencies.
Recognised for his strategic mindset and collaborative leadership, Banerjee’s elevation underscores WPP Media’s commitment to nurturing leadership talent and aligning capabilities with the evolving demands of marketers.
