Meta’s outgoing Chief Artificial Intelligence Scientist, Yann LeCun, has launched a new research organisation, Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI Labs). Media reports suggest he is in early discussions to raise about €500 million for the start-up, potentially valuing it at around €3 billion ahead of its formal launch.
According to reports, LeCun has approached Alex LeBrun, founder of French health technology company Nabla, to take on the role of chief executive.
LeCun is widely regarded as a pioneer of modern artificial intelligence, alongside Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio.
He recently announced his exit from Meta on LinkedIn, bringing to a close a 12-year stint that included five years as founding director of Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and seven years as Meta’s Chief AI Scientist.
