ITC Limited has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director for a five-year term, effective January 1, 2026. A retired IAS officer with over four decades of experience in public administration and governance reform, Kant served as G20 Sherpa to the Prime Minister of India during India’s G20 Presidency in 2022–23.
He has previously held several senior positions, including Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, CEO of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and Tourism Secretary to the Government of Kerala. Kant currently serves on the boards of HCL Technologies Limited, Larsen & Toubro Limited, InterGlobe Aviation Limited, among others.
In addition, ITC has re-appointed Hemant Malik as a Director, liable to retire by rotation, and as a Wholetime Director for a further period of two years, effective August 12, 2026. Malik is presently the Divisional Chief Executive of ITC’s Foods Business Division and also oversees the company’s Personal Care Products Business. He brings over 35 years of experience across multiple ITC businesses, including Tobacco, Foods, and the Trade Marketing & Distribution (TM&D) vertical.
Before assuming his current role in October 2016, Malik served as Chief Executive of the TM&D Vertical from April 2016. He headed the All India Tobacco Sales function in 2001 and became Head of Marketing for ITC’s emerging Foods Business in April 2002. In April 2008, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the newly formed FMCG TM&D Vertical. He subsequently served as COO of Cigarette Brands and Supply Chain at the India Tobacco Division in August 2012, and was elevated to Divisional Chief Executive of the division in August 2015.
