JioStar is consolidating its sports empire — and at the center of it all is Ishan Chatterjee. In a strategic elevation, Chatterjee will now head the entire sports vertical at the Reliance-Disney joint venture, taking charge not just as Chief Business Officer – Sports Revenue, SMB & Creators, but also overseeing the full-spectrum of sports responsibilities.
With this, he succeeds Sanjog Gupta, who has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Chatterjee’s rise isn’t surprising. He joined JioCinema in 2024 after an illustrious career that includes over a decade at Google, where he served as Managing Director for YouTube India and earlier led product partnerships across Asia-Pacific. Add to that his stints at McKinsey & Company and Hindustan Unilever, and you have a leader who seamlessly blends strategy, brand expertise, and digital fluency.
At JioStar, Chatterjee has already been instrumental in reimagining how live sports is monetized—from digital-first cricket broadcasts to unlocking new advertiser segments via creators and SMBs. His knack for turning viewership into value has made him a central figure in the platform’s explosive sports growth.
With this expanded mandate, Chatterjee will now oversee every facet of the sports vertical—from programming and distribution to rights partnerships and pricing models. He continues to lead a high-powered team, including Anup Govindan, who spearheads cricket-led content syndication across platforms.
JioStar’s move to unify its sports vision under Chatterjee’s leadership signals a confident, future-facing bet. It’s no longer just about owning rights—it’s about building an ecosystem where content, commerce, and community converge. And as India’s sports economy enters its next chapter, Ishan Chatterjee is set to be one of its defining architects.
