NEET vs CLAT ad goes viral; ‘Peak capitalism,’ says the internet

In light of the controversy surrounding The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a print ad pitting the exam against Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) has gone viral.

There has been a huge uproar against NEET 2024 after students complained of discrepancies in the results. Many have been calling for NEET to be cancelled. Amidst the brouhaha, a newspaper ad capitalised on the anti-NEET sentiments, urging students to give CLAT a try instead.

The ad read: "Disappointed with NEET results? Think beyond NEET, IIT-JEE. Think CLAT! 5-year law from NLU's."

While NEET and IIT-JEE are two of the most difficult tests in the country for admission into MBBS and undergrad courses at the Indian Institutes of Technology respectively, CLAT is for admissions to 22 national law universities in India.

Netizens are amused by this all-out war against the country's two most competitive yet popular exams. In a country where every parent aspires to see their kids become doctors and engineers, CLAT’s salvo against NEET seems to also be a commentary on the society.

"I didn't wait till JEE to switch. Glad," tweeted a user.

Yet many were also quick to point out capitalism making inroads into the academic sector. "Capitalism is peaking . Last time a shaving blade company tried to capitalise from young topper's looks," read a comment, refering to Bombae's moment marketing ad in support of Prachi Nigam.

Some also sneaked in lawyer jokes: "What else do you expect from would be lawyers?"

"Tbh we do need more lawyers right?" read another.

"Kuch bhi ho. Paisa nahi rukna chahiye, (Whatever happens, money shouldn't stop rolling in)," read another comment.
