Meta outage: Facebook, Instagram issue resolved after disruption

Facebook and Instagram users were in for a rude shock on Tuesday evening when the apps experienced an outage in India and other parts of the world. Users were unable to log in on both platforms or refresh their pages. Some users were also asked to change passwords.

Soon after the news of the outage started trending on X, Andy Stone, Communications Director at Meta, took to the microblogging platform: "We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now."
The cause of the outage has not been revealed.

The panic was palpable with many FB and Instagram users fearing cyber attacks on their accounts.

The services were restored by Tuesday night with Tracy Clayton from Meta Public Affairs sharing an official statement: “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Andy Stone, Communications Director at Meta, addressed the outage on X as soon as news of the disruption started trending.

In his usual irreverent fashion X owner Elon Musk couldn't help but make a snide remark at the situation. "If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working," he said.

According to media reports, Meta's application programming interface showed that even WhatsApp Business was facing issues; however, outages for WhatsApp and Threads were not as widespread.

Users also took to X and shared hilarious takes on the situation.
