TAM AdEx recently launched its half-yearly print advertising report for the period January to June 2024.
In H1 2024, ad space increased five percent over the corresponding period in 2023. In the first half of 2022-23, it grew by 11 percent compared to the same period of 2022 respectively.
In terms of sectors, Education, Services, and Auto led the list with 19 percent, 15 percent and 13 percent shares respectively. These top three sectors maintained their positions from Jan-Jun’24, consistent with their rankings in the same period in 2023.
The top five sectors together accounted for more than 60 percent share of ad space in the Print medium. Telecom Products was the only new entrant among the Top 10 sectors in Print medium.
Among leading categories, Cars, Coaching/Competitive Exam Centres, and Multiple Courses were the top three. Four out of the top 10 categories moved up in ranking during Jan-Jun’24.
Multiple Courses, Properties/Real Estates, Retail Outlets-Electronics/Durables, and Schools categories maintain their respective ranks in H1’24 compared to H1’23.
Three out of the top 10 categories were from the Education sector and 2 from Auto and Services sectors each.
Similar to Jan-Jun’23, Maruti Suzuki India led the list of advertisers in Print, with SBS Biotech following in the same period of 2024. Eight of the Top 10 advertisers from Jan-Jun’23 were still in the top 10 of Jan-Jun’24.
Rankings of Samsung India Electronics and Kent RO System shot up to the top 10 list of Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jan’23.
Honda Shine 100 was the top brand in print during Jan-Jun’24 followed by Aakash Medical/IIT-JEE/Foundation, Allen Career Institute, Maruti Car Range and more. During Jan-Jun’24, there were more than 105K brands who advertised in Print.
Cars saw the highest ad space growth with 25 percent increase during Jan-Jun'24 over Jan-Jun'23. In terms of growth percentage, Cellular Phones and Smartphones category witnessed highest growth percentage among the Top 10 i.e. 2.9 Times during Jan-Jun '24.
Hindi and English language publications together contributed more than 60 percent share of ad volume during both Jan-Jun’23 and Jan-Jun’2024. The top 5 publications, namely Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil remained the same during the first half of 2023 and 2024.
Sales Promotion advertising covered 28 percent share of ad space in Print during Jan-Jun’24. Among Sales Promotions, Discount Promotion was on top with 44 percent share followed by Multiple Promotion. The top two promotions solely covered 85 percent share of ad space during the year Jan-Jun’24.
