Direct-to-home (DTH) operator Tata Play reported a deeper consolidated loss of ?529.43 crore for FY25, compared to a net loss of ?353.88 crore in the previous fiscal year.
The company’s operating revenue saw a 5.15% decline, falling to ?4,082.5 crore. Total revenue also dropped 5% year-on-year to ?4,109.3 crore, according to data from business intelligence platform Tofler.
Despite the widening losses, Tata Play managed to cut its net debt to ?3,445.60 crore in FY25 from ?4,010.21 crore the year before. Overall expenses dipped by 3% to ?4,619.22 crore, aided in part by a sharp reduction in advertising and promotional spends — which were slashed by 29.2% to ?124.28 crore, down from ?175.54 crore in FY24.
Tata Play operates in a competitive DTH market, going head-to-head with rivals such as DishTV, Airtel Digital TV, and the government-run DD Free Dish.
Notably, a potential merger between Tata Play and Bharti Airtel’s DTH business was called off on May 3, after both parties failed to reach an agreeable solution.
