While ‘viewers’ measures the number of unique individuals engaging with a content, regardless of how many times they tuned in, ‘views’ represent the total number of times the content was watched, including multiple views by the same person.
In contrast, Disney+ Hotstar, the official broadcaster, displayed total concurrent viewership figures on its platform during the the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 games.
The 2023 World Cup India vs. Pakistan clash recorded a peak concurrency of 3.5 crore viewers on Disney+ Hotstar, while the same high-stakes encounter in the 2024 T20 World Cup saw 5.3 crore concurrent viewers. Meanwhile, for Asia Cup, the peak concurrency for the India vs Pakistan match stood at 2.8 crore viewers.
The data on the number of unique viewers for the ongoing Champions Trophy has not been released yet.
During yesterday’s clash, the views soared as Virat Kohli sealed the victory while chasing a target of 241 runs. With his winning stroke, Kohli also brought up his 51st ODI century, keeping fans captivated till the last moment.
The excitement kicked off right from the start, as Mohammed Shami’s opening over saw views spike to 6.8 crore. By the final over of Pakistan’s innings, the number had climbed to 32.1 crore, touching 32.2 crore during the innings break.
