Advertising and marketing services conglomerate WPP is reportedly planning to rebrand GroupM, its media investment arm, as WPP Media, 20 years after it was named.
According to a report by AdAge, the move will bring GroupM in line with competitors like Publicis Media and Omnicom Media Group, shifting towards a more centralised solution for its clients.
GroupM is the media investment arm of WPP and world’s largest media buying group. GroupM oversees media planning, buying, and analytics for some of the biggest brands globally, negotiating ad placements across TV, digital, print, etc.
GroupM employs 40,000 professionals worldwide, representing over a third of WPP’s global workforce.
The report also noted that layoffs are expected within the group as individual agency investment teams are consolidated. CEO Mark Read had hinted at the “year of transition” and major changes under its Global CEO Brian Lesser.
