United Spirits names Praveen Someshwar as new CEO, Hina Nagarajan takes on global role

United Spirits, the Indian arm of global liquor giant Diageo, has announced the appointment of Praveen Someshwar as its chief executive officer-designate, effective March 1, 2024. Someshwar will succeed Hina Nagarajan, who is set to join Diageo’s global executive committee after a successful four-year tenure as managing director and CEO of the company.

Someshwar, a seasoned leader in consumer businesses, brings over 29 years of experience to the role. He has been the MD and CEO of HT Media for the past five years and previously held various leadership positions at PepsiCo across India and the Asia-Pacific region for over two decades. Known for his expertise in driving strategy and execution, Someshwar is expected to steer United Spirits into its next phase of growth.

Nagarajan, who was the first woman to lead United Spirits, leaves behind a remarkable legacy. During her tenure, the company experienced sustained, double-digit growth and a significant increase in market capitalization, crossing ?1 trillion ($12.5 billion). Under her leadership, United Spirits implemented transformative strategic initiatives, including portfolio premiumisation, innovation, and a strong focus on growth and profitability.

Reflecting on her time at United Spirits, Nagarajan stated, “It has been a true privilege to lead Diageo India during a period of strong strategic progress and sustained, profitable double-digit growth.
