Veteran banker with over three decades at SBI to serve until September 2028
State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Ravi Ranjan as its new Managing Director, marking another senior leadership elevation within the country’s largest public sector bank. His tenure will remain in effect until September 30, 2028, or until he reaches the age of superannuation, whichever is earlier.Before his appointment as Managing Director, Ranjan served as Deputy Managing Director, where he led SBI’s Global Markets vertical for over a year. Earlier, he headed the Corporate Accounts Group (CAG) as DMD, handling some of the bank’s most significant corporate relationships.
Ranjan has held several key leadership roles across SBI’s domestic operations. He previously served as Chief General Manager of the Chennai Circle, overseeing operations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. His experience also includes a stint as President and Chief Operating Officer at SBICAPS, Mumbai, as well as leading the Retail Network as General Manager in Bengaluru.
Joining SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1991, Ranjan brings more than 34 years of experience spanning corporate banking, retail banking, capital markets and international operations. His overseas assignments include roles in Hong Kong, where he handled debt syndications, and Los Angeles, California, further adding to his global banking exposure.
