OpenAI’s Chief Communications Officer, Hannah Wong, is set to leave the company in January, according to an internal announcement, as reported by multiple news agencies.
In a joint message, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and CEO of Applications Fidji Simo acknowledged Wong’s role in steering the organisation’s public narrative at a time when the company was scaling rapidly. “Hannah has played a defining role in shaping how people understand OpenAI and the work we do,” the leadership noted, highlighting her ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and nuance.
Wong joined OpenAI in 2021 and has since overseen its communications strategy during a period of heightened global attention on artificial intelligence and its societal impact.Following her departure, Lindsey Held, Vice President of Communications at OpenAI, will take over leadership of the communications team on an interim basis. The search for Wong’s successor is being led by Chief Marketing Officer Kate Rouch.
