MIB Cancels Over 1,000 MSO Registrations in Nationwide Crackdown on Non-Compliance

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has intensified its crackdown on non-compliant cable operators, cancelling the registrations of more than 1,000 Multi System Operators (MSOs) across India. This latest sweep brings the total number of active registered MSOs down to 787.According to updated data released by the ministry, as of November 30, a total of 1,117 MSO registrations have been cancelled, rejected, or surrendered due to non-compliance an increase from 1,072 in October and 1,068 in September.

In addition to cancellations, the ministry has rejected applications from 114 MSOs for issues such as late submissions, failure to provide required documents, and denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The tightening of regulatory scrutiny highlights the government’s commitment to acting against inactive, non-compliant, or procedurally non-adherent operators.Industry analysts believe the move could streamline the cable distribution sector, improving service quality, transparency, and consumer accountability. However, it also sends a strong reminder to operators about the consequences of ignoring regulatory obligations.
