Google Names Amin Vahdat as Chief Technologist for AI Infrastructure

Google has reportedly appointed Amin Vahdat as its chief technologist for AI infrastructure, marking a significant shift in how the company positions its AI and cloud capabilities. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian has indicated that AI infrastructure will now be a central priority for the tech giant.

Vahdat currently serves as an Engineering Fellow and Vice President overseeing the Machine Learning, Systems and Cloud AI team. Known for his influential work in computer science, he has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and accumulated over 54,000 citations. His research spans a wide spectrum  including cloud architecture, software-defined networking, distributed systems, operating systems, storage, data-center design, and optical networking.

The appointment underscores Google’s intent to strengthen its foundational AI systems at a time when global demand for scalable, high-performance AI infrastructure is surging. Vahdat’s expertise is expected to play a pivotal role as Google continues to evolve its AI capabilities across products and enterprise services.
