Scribes arrested for ‘derogatory’ video on CM Revanth Reddy get bail

Two female journalists who were arrested for posting “abusive” content against Telangana CM Revanth Reddy have secured bail, according to a recent news report.

The scribes—Pogadadanda Revathi and Thanvi Yadav—were reportedly granted bail at Rs 25,000 each and were instructed to appear before police twice a week by a local court.

Last week, Revathi, the MD of Pulse News and Thanvi, a reporter with the channel were arrested by police officers in plain clothes after a complaint was filed by the State Secretary of the Congress Social Media Cell in Hyderabad.

A video featuring Thanvi Yadav created controversy after she interviewed a man who used derogatory language against the Congress government and the CM. Revathy allegedly amplified the video’s reach by posting it on her social media page. The video, according to police, was shot inside the BRS office, say media reports.

The charges of “organised crime” against the two were dropped since there were no “monetary transactions.”

The court, however, maintained that the charges under the Information Technology Act and BNS provisions tied to creation and propagation of false information were applicable and the accusations were prima facie “well-rounded.”

CM Reddy has heavily censured the video and warned about stringent action against journalists indulging in “defamatory propaganda.”
