Runjhun Sharma Appointed Head of News at RT India

Runjhun Sharma, one of RT’s most prominent and widely recognised South Asia journalists, has been appointed Head of News, RT India, marking a major leadership move for the newly launched bureau in New Delhi.Sharma has been among the Moscow-based network’s most closely connected correspondents covering South Asia for several years, reporting extensively even before the Ukraine conflict reshaped global media coverage. Known for her sharp reporting and rare high-level access, she has covered critical political developments across the region and closely followed President Vladimir Putin’s key bilateral and multilateral engagements in Russia, China and other global capitals.

Beyond field reporting, Sharma has also authored widely read columns that offer a ground-level view of observing President Putin up close during major summits and diplomatic engagements, reflecting the depth of access she has gained across international platforms. After spending years reporting from diplomatic frontlines and global summits  combined with her calm, distinctly non-Western journalistic approach  Sharma now steps into a leadership role where she will shape the editorial vision of RT India and oversee the network’s news coverage for Indian audiences.

RT India was formally launched in New Delhi with President Putin announcing the channel’s entry into the Indian media space alongside RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan and Sharma. During the launch, Putin stated that RT’s mission remains focused on delivering “truthful information” about Russia and worldwide developments while offering perspectives that differ from Western media narratives.Positioned as a dedicated India-centric newsroom within Russia’s state-run global media ecosystem, RT India reflects Moscow’s broader strategy of expanding its media presence in partner nations. With Sharma at the editorial helm, the new bureau is expected to play a significant role in framing India–Russia narratives at a time when multipolar global storytelling is gaining increasing prominence.
