Prasar Bharati will call for bids for large-scale testing of for a business model based on Direct to Mobile technology.
Media reports have quoted Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, as saying that the pubcaster is trying to establish the viability of the business model and the bids from tech companies will be invited within a year.
The testing will be carried out over 3-5 years, Dwivedi has told media networks.
The D2M model will be first rolled out in 19 cities, the Prasar Bharati CEO has further said.
In January, Dwivedi said at an industry event that Prasar Bharati was bolstering its digital offerings.
“There is an increasing number of people consuming content only on digital media because of cord-cutting. So far, we have focused more on presenting news through our app,” he had noted, underscoring the changing consumption habits of audiences.
