Gaurav Gandhi: The innovator behind Amazon Prime Video's success

Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President, Amazon Prime Video, Asia-Pacific & Middle East-North Africa, has been nominated for the prestigious e4m Influencer of the Year 2023 title. The seventh edition of the awards will be held in December 2024 at a dazzling ceremony in Gurugram. The award honours visionaries who have transformed the industry, inspired growth and made a significant impact in the marketing and advertising world. The nominees for this prestigious award represent a diverse group of creators, each excelling in their niche.

Gaurav has helped build Prime Video into an entertainment powerhouse in India. His strategic vision has been pivotal in expanding Prime Video’s presence across diverse and fast-growing markets around the world. He serves as the Vice President for Asia Pacific and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) at Amazon's streaming platform, Prime Video. In this role, he oversees Prime Video’s operations across various services, including subscription video on demand (SVOD), the Prime Video Store (TVOD), and Prime Video Channels.

His responsibilities cover the entire APAC and MENA regions , which include major markets like Japan and India, as well as newer markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, where Prime Video has recently expanded.

Gaurav Gandhi is a seasoned industry leader with 25 years of experience across consumer tech, advertising, media and entertainment. Before joining Amazon, he worked with Viacom18, NDTV Imagine, STAR India and Turner International in various leadership roles. He moved into the video streaming space in 2015, where he set up, launched and led Viacom 18’s streaming service VOOT.

Gaurav joined Amazon in 2018 and served as the Country Head for Prime Video in India before taking his role as the VP of Prime Video APAC and MENA. Under his leadership, the streaming service grew rapidly to become India’s most loved entertainment destination . He launched the worldwide first initiatives – Prime Video Mobile Edition & Prime Lite in India, brought live sports to the service, and created a video entertainment marketplace with Prime Video Channels and launched a Movie Rentals (TVOD) service.
