OpenAI backtracks after facing criticism on GPT-5

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has admitted to errors in the introduction of GPT-5, the business' most recent artificial intelligence model. Users strongly objected to the decision to withdraw all earlier models at launch, criticising the new system's performance and even threatening to terminate subscriptions.

In response, OpenAI preserved access to GPT-5 Standard and Thinking models while restoring GPT-4o for ChatGPT Plus customers. Additionally, the business pledged to enhance GPT-5 by making its answers more captivating and emotionally impactful.

Many users believed that GPT-5 provided shorter, less complex responses than its predecessors, despite the fact that it had been promoted as a significant advancement in coding, reasoning, accuracy, health, and multimodal capabilities. Longtime customers were further irritated by the elimination of the model picker, which was formerly marketed as a significant improvement.

Altman acknowledged that the organisation misjudged the difficulty of modernising a product that hundreds of millions of people use on a daily basis. He also acknowledged that it had been a mistake to completely eliminate previous models. Notwithstanding the criticism, user statistics showed that app usage hit all-time highs and ChatGPT API traffic increased in the 48 hours following debut.

The launch coincides with OpenAI's weekly user count of 700 million, which it aimed to surpass with GPT-5.

Prior releases, like the image generating capabilities of GPT-4o, increased acceptance and created viral trends.

The GPT-5 premiere, on the other hand, has drawn more criticism than enthusiasm, so OpenAI must strike a balance between user trust and quick innovation.
