MTV to shut down music channels

MTV is reportedly set to pull the plug on five of its long-running UK music channels by the end of 2025, bringing to a close an era that has lasted nearly 40 years

. According to media reports, MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live will go off air after 31 December. Paramount, the parent company of MTV, made the announcement on October 12.

Paramount is reportedly preparing to discontinue several of the network’s music channels worldwide — including in Australia, Poland, France, and Brazil. However, the move will not affect operations in India.

The decision is part of a sweeping global restructuring, say reports. This move comes after Paramount Global's merger with Skydance Media, which has triggered $500 million global cost-cutting plans.

However, MTV HD will reportedly continue to air reality TV shows.
