Wimbledon 2025 turned out to be a star-studded affair. The iconic tennis tournament, known for its tradition and discipline, also saw brands serving up style with creativity. However, this year, Wimbledon sparked buzz in pop culture circles for a different reason: the Labubus. These trendy dolls made a surprise appearance in the stands, thanks to Urvashi Rautela.
Rautela made a bold style statement with her chic outfit, accessorising her Hermès Birkin handbag with four different coloured Labubu keychains. The viral collectibles drew attention not just for their quirky appeal, but also because they were attached to a Birkin — the iconic bag recently in the spotlight after Jane Birkin’s original fetched €8.6 million at auction. While Wimbledon fever was in full swing, these plush dolls added to the frenzy, sending the internet into overdrive.
One user posted on Instagram, “First Indian woman to carry 4 Labubus,” while another questioned the authenticity of those asking, “These are Lafufu, not Labubu, it’s fake.” Even the influencer Orry jumped into it, teasing, “Your Labubus are not a match for me.”
Labubu, a character from POP MART’s Monsters series by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, went viral after K-pop star Lisa showcased her collection in 2024, transforming the doll into a fashion mascot embraced by celebrities and influencers, including Ananya Panday, Khushi Kapoor and Orry in India, for its blend of childlike charm and luxury appeal.
