Walmart Inc. has announced that Kathryn McLay, President and CEO of Walmart International, will be departing the company. McLay will continue in her role through January 31 and remain with Walmart during the first quarter to support a smooth transition. The company said an announcement on her successor will be made shortly.
“I’m grateful for the positive impact Kath has had on our people and our company throughout her decade of service,” said Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart Inc. “Since stepping into the role of leading Walmart International in 2023, she has driven a strong growth agenda, delivering solid top- and bottom-line performance, advancing our digital and technology transformation, and strengthening the leadership team. She has done a fantastic job, and we will miss her contributions.”
Prior to leading Walmart International, McLay served as President and CEO of Sam’s Club U.S., where she and her team delivered double-digit sales growth. During her tenure, she enhanced merchandise quality, expanded omnichannel capabilities, and guided the business through the pandemic, helping ensure continued service to members during a challenging period. Earlier in her career at Walmart, McLay held roles in Walmart U.S. strategy and supply chain and also led the Neighborhood Market business.
Reflecting on her time at the company, McLay said, “It’s been a privilege to work at Walmart over the past decade. The roles I’ve held have offered incredible opportunities to make an impact on communities, serve customers and members, and lead with purpose. Walmart gave me the chance to make a real difference in the world, and I’m deeply grateful. I truly believe the world is a better place because Walmart is in it.”
