Google has firmly denied reports claiming it plans to introduce advertisements within the Gemini app next year, calling the speculation inaccurate and unfounded. The clarification comes after several reports suggested that Google was preparing to test in-app ads with select partners—fueling concerns that its flagship AI product might adopt a monetisation model similar to its traditional advertising platforms.

Addressing the rumours, Dan Taylor, Google’s Vice President for Global Ads, stated on X that the claims were incorrect, affirming that the Gemini app does not currently feature ads and that the company has no plans to change this position. Google’s AdLiaison account further amplified the message, noting that the company intervened publicly to reassure users amid rising questions.Google clarified that ads continue to appear only within AI Overviews in the U.S., with gradual expansion into additional English-speaking markets. Testing, the company added, is limited to AI Mode within Search, not the standalone Gemini app.

The clarification arrives at a moment of rapid expansion for Gemini. During Google’s Q3 2025 earnings update, the company revealed that the Gemini app had surpassed 650 million monthly active users, including 23 million new sign-ups in September driven largely by Nano Banana, its popular AI-powered photo generation tool.Google is also undergoing a significant technological shift with the launch of Gemini 3, its most advanced multimodal model yet. The company has positioned Gemini 3 as a major competitive leap, embedding the model directly into Google Search from day one. Users can now access the upgraded capabilities through a dedicated AI Mode toggle, eliminating the need to download separate apps—a strategic shift in how Google distributes its AI tools.
