Senior media leader Avinash Pandey is set to take charge as Secretary General of the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF), the apex industry body representing television broadcasters and digital platforms in India.

Industry sources told e4m that the development has been finalised.

Pandey, who has nearly three decades of experience in broadcasting and media management, is best known for his long association with ABP Network, where he served as Chief Executive Officer and earlier as Chief Operating Officer.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in transforming ABP into a digitally agile news network, strengthening its position in a highly competitive environment. Over the years, he has also been actively associated with key industry bodies such as the International Advertising Association (India Chapter), the News Broadcasters & Digital Association, FICCI, and ASSOCHAM, besides contributing to various committees under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

An alumnus of Hindu College, Delhi University, Pandey also pursued executive education at Harvard Business School, which equipped him with global management insights that he has consistently applied in the Indian media context. His combination of academic grounding and industry leadership has positioned him as one of the most respected voices in media policy, strategy, and brand building.

In July this year, Pandey was appointed Director at Laqshya Media Group, where he was expected to bring his expertise to strengthen the group’s out-of-home and integrated media business. He also joined Primus Partners as Senior Advisor for Media Practices, adding to his portfolio of advisory roles that cut across consultancy, media strategy, and policy advocacy.

His new role at IBDF comes at a critical moment as the foundation continues to expand its role beyond television to digital platforms, navigating challenges of regulation, self-governance, and the rapid transformation of audience behaviour.
