Ajay Bhalwankar to lead Sony SAB, Movies cluster, FTA, and Infotainment channels at SPNI

As part of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI)’s leadership realignment, Ajay Bhalwankar has been entrusted with an expanded mandate and will now lead Sony SAB, the Movies cluster, FTA and Infotainment channels. He previously served as Business Head – Sony SAB, where he played a key role in driving strategic growth and shaping the channel’s creative vision, further strengthening its reputation for quality entertainment.

A seasoned leader at SPNI since 2014, Ajay is a well-regarded member of the network’s leadership team. His strong focus on innovation and engaging storytelling has consistently helped deliver compelling content for diverse audiences, enhancing the overall viewer experience.

Over his decade-long journey at Sony Pictures Networks India, Ajay has held several critical leadership roles, including Chief Creative Director for Sony Entertainment Television (SET), the network’s flagship channel. He also led Sony Marathi to significant success, building a loyal viewership through relatable, high-quality programming and firmly establishing the channel as a key player in the Marathi entertainment space.

Prior to joining SPNI, Ajay built rich and diverse experience across media organizations such as Zee TV and Music Asia. He was instrumental in launching Marathi and Hindi channels, producing Marathi films, and setting up a film production studio. At Zee Network, he served as Content Head for Hindi General Entertainment Channels, where he played a pivotal role in creating popular shows and memorable characters across genres. He began his professional journey as a journalist with Mumbai’s leading Marathi daily Aapla Mahanagar and the fortnightly sports magazine Ekach Shatkar.

Ajay holds an M.A. in French Literature from the University of Mumbai and has completed an advanced media management programme at MICA, Ahmedabad. A passionate cinephile and avid reader, he enjoys exploring films across genres and literary works, and spends his leisure time with his family, often embarking on road trips together.
