Anupama Chopra’s Film Companion to shut down?

Anupama Chopra, author, journalist, and film critic, is reportedly shutting down her digital platform, Film Companion. Social media is abuzz after a tweet by Peeping Moon senior journalist Rahul Raut went viral, evoking strong responses from netizens.

Attempts by e4m to reach Chopra for comments have been unsuccessful.

Chopra founded Film Companion in July 2014 as a pan-India platform for entertainment journalism. The website features reviews, interviews, features, and masterclasses related to cinema, television, and web series. The website had an extensive fan following thanks to its reputation for quality content, in-depth critiques and analyses, interesting panel discussions and interviews with top actors and rivetting video content.

Chopra is a celebrated Indian author, journalist and film critic who also served as the festival director of the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival from 2015 to 2023. She is an authority on Indian films and is know for her weekly film review show "The Front Row With Anupama Chopra" on Star World.

In an interview with e4m's Naziya Alvi Rahman, Chopra spoke of Film Companion as a self sustaining business that could never be a vanity project. Chopra also spoke about Film Companion's monetisation model, venturing into branded and commissioned content and her aim to put out content that is informative and entertaining.
