They also requested that the government call off collaborations and investments made by the Chinese in Indian media companies

Indian news bodies —  Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) have asked the GOI to restrict access to Chinese sites in India. In addition to this, they suggested that the government call off collaborations and investments made by the Chinese in India media companies.

Shailesh Gupta, the President of the INS, expressed in a letter addressed to the government that the Chinese government’s decision to block access to Indian newspapers and media websites is “uncalled for.” These sites can’t be accessed even through VPN (Virtual Private Network) due to a technologically advanced firewall.

Pawan Agarwal, Chairman DNPA said, ‘This is the time, that we should consider upholding India’s security, sovereignty as the utmost priority.”

A day after the Indian government blocked 59 apps of Chinese origin, China restricted access to Indian newspaper websites in the country. The Chinese websites continue to be accessible in India.
