In a win-win partnership that is bound to benefit both players, India’s national carrier Air India has partnered with MakeMyTrip to launch a dynamic Holiday Package for travellers. The catch here is the dynamic air fares model that the airline is willing to offer to leisure travellers. The airline will be able to give more discounts, change the premium on demand while MakeMyTrip will offer the same for the land component, all in real time. What’s more, the package would be confirmed like an e-ticket and would include sightseeing tours, hotel stays, and meals.
Make My Trip has offered its support as a fulfilment partner. “It is a partnership where we would like to see Air India benefit from our reach. We remain a committed fulfilment partner where we will do all the on-ground arrangement.†explains Keyur Joshi, Co-Founder and COO, MakeMyTrip.
The concept of dynamic air fares is the most attractive feature of the offer. Joshi claims that it is difficult to offer dynamic airfares to a thousand agents but here the airline can give more discount, change the premium on demand, which are important components in price.
About 150 packages to 73 domestic and 2 international destinations are currently available, in standard and deluxe variations, covering select 3 to 5 star properties. More packages and destinations are being added to cover all destinations served by Air India’s flight network. Customers booking these packages receive the unique benefit of real-time seat availability and price, and online booking and confirmation.  MakeMyTrip has harnessed the online platform to offer the twin benefits of convenience and choice.
“Communication will be on the digital platform and the media mix will largely be driven by Air India. We will support them if there is anything required in promotional marketing. There have been partnerships like these before but those are not real time online, and are more brochure based services,†adds Joshi.
Air India Holidays claims that the pricing is competitive, totally transparent, and all-inclusive and the all-inclusive package price is displayed upfront. A typical package would include accommodation on twin-sharing basis, meals, airport transfers, sightseeing and inter-city travel as applicable. The travel itinerary, hotel details, terms and conditions are indicated upfront in the package details tab.
Joshi claims that a traveller does not have to send a request and go through the long process of email interactions and negotiations. “Our endeavour is to provide competitive land rates and Air India will be giving the best rates according to demand. We have invested in technology and it’s been made available to Air India,†he says.
The two crucial elements that both the brands are banking on are trust and reliability. The aim is to provide a holiday package wherever the airline lands and give the traveller the best value for money.
