Indian mobile handset manufacturer Micromax has announced its new Chief Marketing Officer – Shubhodip Pal, who comes from Blyk, will lead all marketing efforts of Micromax globally. Pal fills in the position that was left vacant by Pratik Seal, who had recently joined the STAR India group for its second Hindi general entertainment channel Life OK.

Commenting on Pal’s appointment, Rahul Sharma, Co-founder, Micromax said, “Our endeavour is to surprise consumers with mobile phone innovations or on any new businesses we enter. Our campaigns have successfully communicated the same in the past and we have taken the market by storm with many First’s. Shubhodip brings with him a great track record as a marketer; tremendous level of energy; experience and enthusiasm that will help the Micromax brand reach newer heights of success.”

In his 16 years of career spent at global renowned brands such as Samsung, ABN AMRO, HP and Blyk, Pal has earned several national and international industry recognitions.

On his new role, Pal said, “It is exciting to be at Micromax at a time when the company is experiencing such an amazing period of growth/transformation and is gearing up to move to the next phase. Listening to customers has always been important and giving due importance to the growing digitalization, we intend to take the brand to newer heights with the right mix of Products for our Consumers coupled with right media mix to reach out to them, with relevant TG centric associations and by building long term properties along the way. The advantage of evaluating and taking quick decisions is another key factor which will take this Brand to the next level be it our products or GTM plans.”

Over the past 16 years Pal has worked in the consumer space, in the areas of strategising and implementing new and innovative campaigns. In his last role, he was heading Blyk India, a mobile messaging company and was instrumental in launching mobile magazine catering to the youth as its Country Manager & Director. In his tenure at Blyk, he successfully established the service with Aircel as one of the most powerful youth engagement platforms within first year of its launch, today Blyk on Aircel has over 3.7 Million opted in users.

Prior to joining Blyk, Pal was Head Consumer Marketing Hewlett Packard India, Personal Systems Group managing both brands HP & Compaq. Turning HP into a Fashionable Lifestyle centric brand from just being a B2B brand was a task which he successfully transformed the Brand to in his 5 years there, he was also instrumental to work with his International brand team in revising the entire Compaq brand Identity. His nine and half year stint with Samsung India included categories like audio-visual, home appliances and mobile phones, when contacting a few sources the industry vouches for the Innovation he chartered in the Brands growth there with many firsts @ Samsung. His stint after Samsung was briefly with ABN-AMRO as their AVP & Head Communications & Sponsorships at the Bank, N.V. and was a part of Regional Brand Strategy team for BU Asia.
