Keymon Ache merchandise to lure kids

Cartoon character, Keymon Ache, created by channel Nickelodeon, specifically for the Indian audience, will have its own merchandise now. Wiesner Wordwide Kreations (WWK), a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based fashion conglomerate, Wiesner Products has bought the license to sell Keymon Ache merchandise in India.

For the uninitiated, Keymon Ache is a magical (Keymon is a play and anagram of ‘monkey’ creature who comes into the home Rohan Tendulkar bringing with him “magic, love and laughter.”

The Keymon Ache collection will be available under the apparel, footwear, bags and bag packs range. The designs, according to WWK would be “global in scope, yet personal in nature, bringing a blend of both international flavours and Indian desires.”

Commenting on the acquisition, Bhavna Jha, VP South East Asia,WWK, said, Keymon Ache has emerged to be a local hero of kids in India, in a short span of time since the show was introduced on Nickelodeon in May 2011. The success of the show lies in the 360 degree approach, adopted by the channel to promote the character, be it downloadable games, videos and ringtones. Keymon Ache is also very popular on Facebook with over a hundred thousand fans. We are proud to be associated with India’s first non-mythological contemporary show and be a part of this achievement by introducing Keymon Ache’s merchandise in India.”

Meanwhile, Sandeep Dahiya, Senior VP – Consumer Products, Viacom18 Media (the parent company of Nickelodeon), was confident that “these (Keymon Ache merchandise) products will be a rage amongst the kids and they will love them.”

Jha told Pitch that the merchandise would be distributed across North, West and East zone. “Key distributors and dealers have been identified across these zones across various categories. Large format stores like Home Centre, Hypercity and Wallmart are the current key stores that we are focusing on,” she said.

While the pricing hasn’t been decided as yet, it would be a “function of two things – firstly, licensed or generic products; and secondly, kind of retail stores (mass vs premium).”

For promotion, the company would be looking forward to events, co-promotions and PR.

For the record, Wiesner Products (New York) has already been associated with the licenses of Nicklodeon for Dora/Spongebo and Diego the cartoon characters for almost a decade now.
